This unique and very rare breed had it beginnings on the working ranches in the United States. Bob Tailed Ranch Cats are independant and can fend for themselves. They adapt to most climates and environments. One of the most endearing qualities is their ability to find a lap and soak up all the petting offered. They have an almost dog-like attitude and are very loyal, They enjoy attention will follow like a dog when taking a walk or doing chores on the ranch.
They seem to enjoy the companionship of dogs, but they know how to handle themselves around unfriendly dogs, and find the nearest tree or safe retreat.
Most kittens in a litter are born with very bobbed tails(hence their name). The acceptable length is from one to three vertebrae. Sometimes a fully tailed kitten is found in the litter and they make great breeding stock as well as fine pets for those that prefer a tailed cat.
The head is fine featured with a medium length nose, and no break. Ears are small with plenty of space between them. The eyes are medium sized, slightly rounded, and can come in copper, hazel and green. Body length is moderate, and almost equal to height with the hind quarters noticeably higher.Their size is medium ranging from 5 pounds to 12 pounds.Bone is medium. The look to strive for is balance and refinement avoiding coarse features and too much length or roundness. They come in a variety of colors and in two coat types: smooth and fluff.
They are very good mothers and no birthing problems have been observed in the breed. The disposition is playful, talkative and curious, but laid back and easy to get along with.
